I remember my high school years, and what stood out to me were the various of girls who were pregnant. Most of them were younger than me! I don't know their circumstances, but what every happened to condoms or birth controls, or was it the raging hormones that made them lose control? Kids are informed about sex and the consequences at an earlier stage, so they know the risk of getting STD and getting pregnant. I just wished they would think before they act and protect themselves.
I know a lot of girls who are younger than me who got pregnant and married the father. They thought they would have the perfect life together-but reality hit and the stress of being young parents..."broke" them. They didn't want to lead the life that they had, and they also realized what they lost-because most of them didn't continued their education after they got pregnant. Some of them even have to work full-time at fast food places just to support themselves. I heard of one couple who got married because the girl got pregnant, and the girl was so stressed out that she abused her four month baby. There were rumors of the girl hitting her baby and there was even a large bruise on the baby's head. The aunt threaten to call child service, but the parents claim they don't know how the baby got the bruise. Its a sad story, and I hope they get caught so child service can be called, and the grandparents or relatives can take care of the baby, because the parents obviously can't.
A lot of girls are marrying at young ages, because they get pregnant. If they don't want to get married for any other reasons, then they shouldn't. They can still raise the child together, they don't need to get married to care for the baby. Most people just aren't ready for a baby and marriage, especially when they are accidents or force marriages. They just aren't mature enough or have enough experience in life to know who they are. I'm not saying that's true for all young couples, but it seems like it for the majority of young couples.
Not too many girls younger than me got pregnant in my high school but soo many did in my grade. It was after we graduated and many of them were able to get some post high school classes in. It's been over a year now since we all graduated and they're doing very well. However I definitely have heard cases like the ones you described about girls I never knew very well or girls from different towns around us. It is sad but hopefully they'll soon figure out it's better for the child to choose an alternative route rather than marrying young and trying to raise it when you're not at all ready.
ReplyDeleteIn high school I didn't have too many people becoming pregnant but the ones that did.. actually did marry their fathers too. Some broke apart some stayed together. Its hard because to many parents rely on the schools to talk about sex and everything that comes from it but they only get 1 year (freshman year) of sex education. I believe there should be one every year, to talk about the changes that happen and so they can be prepared for college. Especially when alcohol and drugs are involved, too many girls are having one night stands and finding themselves pregnant.
ReplyDeleteMarriage is a sacred thing and shouldn't be taken lightly, sadly I feel society doesn't agree..
